Picking a unit is mostly about how much floor space you need and what you are storing. Secure Storage West Monroe in West Monroe has two kinds: indoor climate-controlled units off a lit hallway, and outdoor drive-up units where you park at your own door.

How to choose

Think in garages. A 10×20 is about a single-car garage, a 10×10 about half of one. If you can picture your things stacked in a garage, you can picture the unit.

Measure the largest item, not the pile. A mattress, a sofa or a ladder sets the minimum footprint. Everything else stacks around it.

Leave a walkway. If you will visit often, size up so you can reach the back without unloading the front.

Pick climate control for anything the heat can ruin. Louisiana summers warp wood furniture, damage electronics and grow mold on fabric, photos and papers. For tools, yard gear or anything you want to load straight from a truck, a drive-up unit is quicker.
